I have posted 2 photos in the Photo Gallery of trees, which are of concern to the residents of Yarra Close, Flame Tree Park. The trees are Brush Box which are rain forest dwellers, not street scaping trees. These trees will grow to a height of 30-40 metres, as this is their natural habitat. the root system is invasive as the tree is a water seeker. This can be seen in Yarra Close with the root systems already exposed above ground in these young (8-9 years) old trees. These root systems will cause uplift of the footpaths in the short term, creating considerable expense to Council. The potential to damage underground services exists and damage to property is possible.
What is Council going to do about this problem? NOTHING.
My advice to the residents of Yarra Close is that they should notify their insurance companies as a matter of disclosure, in case of future claims. Insurance companies are bound to ask Council their intentions, as a means of protecting their premiums, who knows what might eventuate.
In the meantime I will contact Council Parks and Gardens to see if some sense may prevail re removal.
